#1 Success Story : Process Optimization

Operational Enhancement in E/E Architecture & Cross Technologies

Goals

The automotive software brand of one of Europe’s most distinguished car manufacturers aimed to improve the organizational models and workflows in the architecture department and the establishment of a commonly accepted cross-brand architecture board for the approval of technical concepts for new features e.g., autonomous driving, user-centered AI or ChatGPT integration in different luxury car brand series.

To refine and improve existing processes, workflows and procedures.

To transition workflows, tooling, boards, and work artifacts towards more agile and flexible methodologies.

To define clear roles, responsibilities, and activities for key roles of the Central Architect and System Core Teams within the delivery unit.

To accompany the transition and transformation with effective change management and transparent communication.

Execution Strategy

A multifaceted approach was employed to achieve these objectives, including:

Reinvention and alignment of Architecture Board

To oversee and streamline the approval process for technical concepts.

Workflow Design & Process Optimization

To guide the design and implementation of an enhanced operating model, agile structures, transformation initiatives, and project management tools.

Establishment of meetings structures

To support cooperation and communication and to foster project progress in each system several meeting events were designed and put in place including planning and deep dive session as well as tracking dailies.

Utilization of Visualizations and Statistical Reporting

To monitor and report on project progress, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the architectural process.

Improved throughput of car line feature tickets

Creating efficient processes, workflows, standards, methods, and tools has drastically increased Jira feature ticket throughput for both delivery and release management in the E/E Architecture & Cross Technologies department.

Outcomes

Efficient Deployment of Human Ressources

Ensuring human resources being efficiently deployed streamlined work processes and information flow.

Adherence to Essential Architecture Processes

Ensuring human resources being efficiently deployed streamlined work processes and information flow.

Enhanced Collaboration Across Departments

Improving cooperation between requirements management, end-to-end architecture, cross-functional teams, and release management throughout the architectural process chain.

Establishment of a Cross-Brand Architectural Committee

The creation of a comprehensive documentation system, ticketing system, and management of artifacts, and moderation standards to facilitate cross-brand collaboration and oversight.

This use case exemplifies a strategic and comprehensive approach to implementing agile transformation and operational enhancements within an automotive software brand division, fostering the organization’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and cross-brand collaboration in the pursuit of safer, more sustainable, and comfortable automotive mobility.
